This group, started at the Holyoke Public Library in February 2017 and now hosted at Breathing Space, is for anyone interested in learning more about meditation.
Join us for Mindfulness meditation practice, discussion, and study. Each evening will begin with silent (light guidance) meditation at 6:30, reflection, book study, discussion, and refreshments and socializing until 8:00 pm. (If you are new to the group, please come on a FIRST TUESDAY of the month at 6pm for instruction and orientation). No prior meditation experience or knowledge is necessary. We will be sitting on chairs for the class. A $5 donation is requested per meeting to support the Breathing Space Mission (http://breathingspaceholyoke.com/mission-statement/).
The regular practice of meditation is noted for its support of balance, perspective, compassion, and equanimity in the face of life’s challenges. Meditation offers us a way to make a friendly relationship with our thoughts and life circumstances, and find the awake presence moment to moment that is our true nature as human beings. This group is based on fostering community by providing a welcoming and safe environment where all feel valued and heard. This group invites and welcomes all genders, ages, races, ethnicity/origin/documentation status, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, education levels, politics, and financial means. This meeting is drug/alcohol-free. This class is led by Dori Digenti, Certified meditation instructor and educator in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition, and community college teacher. Dori runs Breathing Space Yoga & Mindfulness Studio.
