Liberation Recovery YogaSM for addiction recovery is a core activity within Breathing Space’s broader mission. Each LRY class consists of exploration of a recovery themes through mindfulness and yoga pose practice. This practice provides opportunities to experience being in our bodies and discovering flexibility, strength, and balance. Participants learn important health information concerning the nervous system, brain, and physiology, that support wellness and living life fully.
Yoga, mindful movement, and meditation are increasingly accepted as building blocks of a holistic addiction recovery path, and as important supports for all levels of treatment for addiction. Liberation Recovery Yoga is informed by the practices of Recovery Coaching, The Work That Reconnects (Joanna Macy), Holistic Recovery, and Psychologies of Liberation. Through liberating ourselves from the isolation, shame, and oppression of addiction, we build a bridge to care and service to others, and move toward living life fully in the present moment with kindness and grace.
Liberation Recovery Yoga classes are being offered at Breathing Space, and in the community at Inpatient Stabilization, Intensive Outpatient, Recovery Houses, Community Recovery Centers, and for incarcerated individuals.
